The Frances Irwin Handweavers guild was founded in the 1960s to foster the art of handweaving and related fiber interests. More than 50 years later, that mission continues.
The guild was named in honor of Frances Irwin, a weaver and instructor in East Stroudsburg, PA, who taught weaving out of her home. Several of the first members of the guild had been taught by Frances.
To celebrate our 50th anniversary, members of the guild contributed swatches of their weaving to create a patchwork banner to use at various outreach events. Additionally, a guild committee (Cuyler Augustino, Dee Lande, Elaine McCarthy) created a tartan in honor of the anniversary that was registered (August 2024) with the Scottish Register of Tartans.
Meetings are held once a month, September through June, on the second Monday of the month. Meetings during the winter months will be virtual on Zoom (check calendar).
We meet at the Green Township Municipal Building, 150 Kennedy Road, Green Township in Sussex County, NJ. Meetings begin at 10:00 am with a social time beginning at 9:30 am.
The Frances Irwin Handweavers guild is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. We are member guilds of the MidAtlantic Fiber Association (MAFA), the Handweavers Guild of America (HGA) and the NJ Fibershed. Visit us on Facebook.
